Main Character
What motivates your character? What do they have as long term goals, even vague ones?
Meiling's goals are to serve her mistress faithfully, and defend the adopted home she has come to love. She feels strongly about Sakuya (being her only friend), and Meiling wishes she could do more to assist her.

She wants to see Flandre be able to leave the mansion without worrying about her, and to have the Scarlet sisters have a normal relationship.

She would like to get closer to Sakuya, but many times their duties prevent this. This is complicated by the fact Sakuya seems to share more with Remilia than with Meiling.

Meiling would also like to see Patchouli and Koakuma leave the library a bit more, and spend more time with the rest of the inhabitants of Scarlet Devil Mansion.

In short, Meiling sees her housemates as her family.

Relationships

  • Remilia Scarlet -- Meiling is both awed by and somewhat fearful of Remilia. While she does not always share her worldview, she obeys her without question and in total loyalty. She strives to be closer to her, and to gain her trust as much as possible.
  • Flandre Scarlet -- Flandre is a pitiable child who does not understand the world at all. Meiling is dismayed of her power and her tendency to lash out, but hopes to show Flandre that the world is not as small and cruel as she thinks.
  • Patchouli Knowledge -- Meiling has no particular relationship with Patchouli. She is allowed books from time to time on loan, but they are worlds apart from one another. Despite this, Meiling conspires to figure a way to form some kind of an understanding with the mysterious magician.
  • Koakuma -- Meiling has no particular feelings for the devil, other than treating her as an honored house guest. Currently they almost never cross paths.
  • Sakuya Izayoi -- Sakuya is beloved by Meiling, who is quite devoted to her. If there is any reason why Meiling works as hard as she does, it is in order to please Sakuya. Meiling cares for her deeply, and wants to have a more than professional relationship with the maid. Arguably, Sakuya is Meiling's only true friend in the world.
  • Daiyousei -- A nice enough fairy from the lake. Meiling feels obligated to watch out for her sometimes, as she restrains Cirno's excesses.
  • Cirno -- A small “Rival”; Meiling is actually fairly fond of Cirno despite her annoyances. Her strong spirit and desire to prove herself causes Meiling to try and steer her in the right direction, even if she remains somewhat wayward.
  • Rumia -- A youkai from around the mansion, she cannot remember Meiling too often. Meiling is not too impressed by her, as her hunger for humans makes her uneasy.
  • Reimu Hakurei -- The notorious Miko! Meiling has suffered through Reimu’s attacks, but once the mist incident was settled, she seems to be on rather friendly terms with their frequent guest.
  • Marisa Kirisame -- Meiling has not seen Marisa around lately. Although she knows Miss Patchouli has an understanding with the witch, she doesn't feel comfortable with how readily she takes advantage of the Scarlet Devil Mansion's hospitality.
  • Alice Margatroid -- A girl that Meiling encountered once at Eientei. Meiling does not have too much of an opinion of her.
  • Lyrica Prismriver -- A ghost who snuck her way into the mansion. Meiling did not get too strong of an impression of her, and likely would not remember her if she saw her again.
  • Youmu Konpaku -- A frequent guest; Youmu is polite and friendly. Meiling doesn’t even bother to ask Youmu if she has an appointment, since she knows that the half-ghost will cause no trouble.
  • Yuyuko Saigyouji -- A clever and warm hostess. Meiling likes Yuyuko well enough, but is rather nervous around the powerful ghost, seeing as how the dead are something she cannot really fight.
  • Yukari Yakumo -- Meiling is suspicious of Yukari. Although powerful and venerable, she isn't sure she entirely trusts the older youkai. Still, she's done nothing overt and thus Meiling must trust Remilia to handle her.
  • Suika Ibuki -- Meiling respects Suika’s fighting spirit, but does not approve of her sloppy fighting style. Largely, she considers the Oni to be a rude annoyance who is more interested in alcohol and filling her belly than being friendly. Events may conspire to change this impression over time.
  • Mystia Lorelei -- Meiling ate at her stand during the Onbashira festival, and was helped by her when she encountered a baby bird. She seems rather bossy, but genuinely means well. Meiling is on friendly terms with Mystia, even if she can’t remember her name.
  • Keine Kamishirasawa -- Meiling is unfamiliar with Keine, though she has seen her around the human village.
  • Tewi Inaba -- A small, annoying rabbit who likes to play pranks. Meiling doesn't know her name and doesn't trust her, but harbors no overt ill-will.
  • Reisen Undonge Inaba -- Meiling has encountered Reisen a few times. They do not currently know one another's names nor does she have much of an opinion either way.
  • Eirin Yagokoro -- Eirin is the doctor who helped heal Sakuya. Meiling has encountered her twice. While she seems to like Eirin well enough, she is wary of her motives.
  • Kaguya Houraisan -- Meiling finds Kaguya haughty and unpleasant. They met up during “Halloween”, and Kaguya rubbed her the wrong way.
  • Fujiwara no Mokou -- Mokou is a friend of Meiling’s, and she would like to see more of her. They have a promise to eat bamboo shoots at some time, but it seems like they only bump into one another by chance.
  • Komachi Onozuka -- Komachi was encountered during a shopping trip in the human village. Meiling did not get too much of an impression of her.
  • Shikieiki Yamaxanadu -- Meiling knows who and what Shikieiki is, and for that she is indifferent. By her perception, Shikieiki is a Japanese judge over Japanese souls, not Chinese ones. She cannot see much beyond the Yama’s title, and does not know Shikieiki very well as a person. She always does her best to be on her best behavior, though, considering this is her adopted country.
  • Nitori Kawashiro -- Meiling finds Nitori to be a strange girl; for one thing, what was she doing in Marisa’s house late at night?! Overall, Nitori saw through one of Meiling’s plans to get books back from Marisa, and agreed to help her out.
  • Sanae Kochiya -- A girl who came to get her clothes fixed, Sanae seems to have personal space issues. Meiling does not know too much about her.
  • Suwako Moriya -- The girl who came to ‘watch’ them find a nest for the bird that Meiling found. Meiling is not impressed by Suwako’s unwillngness to help out. She is not on hostile terms, however.
  • Kisume -- A small, curious girl who came and helped Meiling find the small bird’s net. Meiling doesn’t know her very well, but she greatly appreciates the help.
  • Yuugi Hoshiguma -- Meiling and Yuugi click-- pure and simple. They fought at one point, but the fight was high-spirited and fun. Both of them greatly enjoyed themselves. They decided that they would need to get together and drink. After losing the duel, Yuugi left peacefully, which left an amazing impression on Meiling. Yuugi seems the more honorable of the two Oni, based on limited impressions.
  • Satori Komeji -- A totally unknown entity, Satori has only recently been met. Meiling does not know her name, but she seems knowledgeable and polite. This is enough to garner a small amount of respect.
  • Utsuho Reiuji -- A girl who Meiling met once in the human village. Meiling does not know too much about her, but admires her long black hair.
  • Koishi Komeji -- Koishi appeared briefly and teased Meiling. Meiling does not really understand this girl, nor know who she is.
  • Kogasa Tatara -- Meiling is careful around Kogasa-- she wants to like her, but she really cannot trust her. Her eccentric behavior and willingness to break the rules to get a scare in means she is difficult to manage, but she can be kind as well. Ultimately Meiling tries to be nice to her, even when she suspects she's wasting her time.
  • Shou Toramaru -- Meiling fought against Shou in the Millinary and Martial Blood Tournament. They got along fairly well after that. Meiling is impressed by Shou’s morals and principals, and admires her abilities with a weapon. Sadly, their paths rarely cross.
  • Byakuren Hijiri -- A woman who Meiling encountered in the Human Village, and again in the plains where she was camping. Meiling knows that Byakuren means well, but can’t help but find her imposing. She is uneasy around Byakuren, and feels that she is inadequate compared to her. Meiling would rather not be around her, even if she knows that Byakuren is a very good person.
  • Nue Houjuu -- Nue is completely unknown to Meiling, and even if they met it is unlikely Meiling would care much for her questionable personality.
  • Yumemi Okazaki -- A boisterous redhead who seems to have some ties to the Mansion. Meiling doesn’t know Yumemi well, or even why she is there, but she knows enough to dislike her.
  • Mima -- A woman who dressed up as a catfish. Whether she knew that this was one of Meiling’s rivals is unknown, but Meiling distrusts her just the same for it. While not one to hate others, Meiling is probably very close to outright hatred of Mima if only because she comes across as a rude brat.
  • Shingyoku -- Meiling and Shingyoku are on good terms as sparring partners; they both use the power of Chi. Meiling is impressed by Shingyoku’s history, and is rather embarrassed that she is not so impressive as her. They planned to grow as martial artists together, but Meiling has not seen her in a few years.
  • Rikako Asakura -- A woman who Meiling has encountered twice. She seems stuffy and strict, but visited Meiling once in order to train. Meiling is impressed with Rikako’s honesty and humility.
  • Orange -- A girl that Meiling met at Onbashira‘s festival. They were confused for sisters, but they both hastily corrected the misunderstanding. Meiling does not know much about her, and found her flippant attitude a little vexing. Still, she seems to mean well.
