New Policy Regarding Continuity on PoIR

Postby Fujiwara no Mokou » 23 Dec 2012 02:23

Announcing Rules Overhaul

As a result of characters changing hands over the years, PoIR does not have a clear single continuity. To address this, you may choose which threads provide background for a new thread that you create; this could be your character's posts written by you, posts written by former players, or threads that your character did not participate in but is nevertheless affected by. If you wish to explicitly connect threads together as part of a single story arc, please make note of such at the beginning of each thread (example below).

In short: as long as you keep to ZUN's canon and a consistent portrayal of your own character you don't have to worry about maintaining a strict continuity with your threads and the rest of PoIR.

N.B: This is only bringing the rules up to date with the way things have been running for a long time; there won’t be any major impact on the way you write on PoIR. As usual, feel free to ask the moderators if you have any questions or concerns!

Examples of Continuity Mapping

If you want to have a fixed continuity between threads, you can mark it on your first post in a thread. Each player may have the thread in their own differing story arcs, One way to note a thread's place in a continuity is like so:

[Invite Only] Preparing for a Pilgrimage

Part of “The Fiery Path of Redemption” *Journal page Link*
Continuing from “Imperishable Tale” *Link to thread*

We also encourage players to use their character journals to map out the story arc(s) that they want their threads to fall under. Example:

Story Arc: “The Fiery Path of Redemption”

Memories of the Phoenix *Link*
Imperishable Tale *Link*
Preparing for a Pilgrimage *Link*

Players can have as many or as few story arcs as they wish, and not all threads need to be explicitly put together in a set. Feel free to customize the above formats as you wish.
