[Open] The Three Sisters Detective Agency

Postby Sunny Milk » 02 Jul 2010 01:05

An idea is an idea, just like ten bucks is ten bucks; you can't devalue something that comes without cost on the part of the recepient. At least, that's how Sunny Milk thought when an idea came to her in the place where most world-changing ideas are generated: the toilet.

Together with her sisters, she would found a detective agency to solve small crimes and generally assist the inhabitants of Gensokyo. This was a two-fold plan as it would not only generate income for the household, but their reputation would increase substantially and perhaps, due to that increase in trust, people would stop leaving flaming piles of shit on their doorstep.

The first step was to think up fake names. Sunny decided that she would be known as Amelia Underwood, a very professional and distinguised name. She even got a fake moustache to go along with it! This couldn't fail! She would just kick back and wait while the requests came pouring in~

As luck would have it, a down-on-her-luck dame was already on her way. After a failed attempt to get solid leads over at the party, Chiyuri Kitashirakawa had been searching around and ran into some random fairies that were giggling amongst themselves about a 'detective agency'. Of course, after that encounter, she was still picking leaves out of her hair. Those fairies were crafty pranksters indeed. Or it could be that Chiyuri was just the best unassuming shmuck possible for their shenanigans.

"Come to think of it, I don't think we encountered any fairies in our first visit," mused the sailor to herself, having paused to browse the forest with her hands on her hips after having no luck trying to find anything that looked especially 'detective agency'-ish. "Then again..." Chiyuri lowered her head, raising one arm to scratch at the side of it in slow contemplation. "I didn't get much of a chance to browse Gensokyo at all then, did I?"

Gee. Thinking about just how much of Gensokyo Chiyuri missed out on the first time made her feel kind of disgruntled all over again. Couldn't Yumemi have let her explore just once? But that was the past. She needed to worry more about the present. And at the moment, that meant seeing if she could hire this agency's services to help her find the professor. But was the agency even in the forest? Who was it she was even supposed to find? Chiyuri sighed, tucked her hands back in her pockets after taking a moment to adjust her hat, and continued walking down the path. "Jeez, where is it? Maybe I'm on the wrong track altogether..."

Sunny was always full of wonderful ideas, this was definitely one of them, but as per usual, poorly executed. While Sunny sat around in the house waiting for the news about their new detective agency to spread to the rest of Gensokyo. The main issue was: where were they going to go? If they came to their home they'd know right off the bat who they were and they'd get into trouble for past deeds or something else terrible.

In comes the solution to the problem: Star... or rather May Greenfield! Along side of the main road that was near their home she set up a small handmade stand from various driftwood pieces and other fallen branches (nothing live of course. The wood faeries would've had a fit). It wasn't exactly elaborate or well made, but it got the message across a small billboard written in red letters across the top read:

3 Sisters Detectives

Star err May sat behind the counter of the stand not in her usual dress but one crafted specifically for this new endeavor. The blue and white dress was replaced by a slimmer and lighter dress than she usually worse and was a a light shade of red, and she even went as far as to put on make up that she had stolen from Kaguya's room back during their quest to become princesses! Her hair was done up into a ponytail that started out as a top knot, but with her hair being so long it had to hang down and she'd never cut it... EVER. The disguise was perfect! No one would figure her out!

After a long and very BORING mornnig of waiting around for someone to show up she finally spotted their first lient, well hopefully anyways. She waved enthusiastically to Chiyuri from behind the stand, a huge smile on her face as she shouted out a greeting,

"Hello wayward soul! I take you're in need of our services?!" Star even went as far as trying to disguise her voice for this. Hopefully her sisters would put as much effort into this as she did...

That was actually one of Sunny's good idea, though good luck getting Luna to admit it. Offering your services to people had few ways to backfire, solving mysteries could be fun, and getting stuff in exchange would be a nice treat on top, so long as Sunny didn't accept any of that useless money crap.

Of course, then, Sunny had declared that they should use made up names. When Luna had called Sunny an idiot for doing that and then added that she would not do something that silly, Sunny had imperiously dubbed her Elise Rumbottom, put on a fake mustache, and was now sitting at the dinner table waiting for customers.

After much arguing, Luna finally agreed to go along and had switched to her Youkai Spider Silk Dress that Yamame had made for her. The style was different enough from Luna's usual style that Sunny accepted it as a disguise, and if Sunny somehow managed to make even this situation backfire, the added protection should be a lot of help.

Some time later, Luna was slumped by her sister and feeling more and more that she should have run away with Star, wherever she had run of to. With a groan of boredom, the moonlit fairy turned to her sunlit counterpart, “This is taking a long time. Are you sure you put up enough advertising? We won't be helped much if the people who need us don't even know how to find us.”

Sunny was the patient type. She had waited with her sister Luna for a whole ten minutes before bawling and slamming her fists on the table. Nobody was coming! Why not!? Did they feel threatened? Shy? Intimidated? If that was the case, they may as well move to where Star had set up an outpost. She had a bigger sign, after all.

"Uwaah...C'mon Luna. Let's go see Star. It kinda sucks here right now."

So they did and Sunny was sure Luna appreciated that due to how her lips formed an ever-so-gentle smile. Yes, it did releive the boredom but good lord was it hot! It was particularly hot because Sunny, in all her ineffable wisdom, had decided it was high time to wear the three-piece black suit that Star had sewn for her. It had taken the little fairy some time to complete it, basing the pattern on a type of clothing popular in the human world, so Sunny felt she owed her sister to wear it at least once. Besides, it made her look smooth as a baby's ass~

Reaching the location intended, they spotted a woman in white beside their sister. Fuck life! She did get a customer! So, with all the subtlety of an elephant in a cinema, Sunny barged right up in front of star and confronted the woman.

"Hey there!", she wiggled her moustache for effect. "Welcome to the Three Sisters Detective Agency, solvers of crime, getbackers of lost items, and killers of themneedingtobekilled. My name is Alice Underrock, what can we do ya for?"

Today, a monk wanders.

Where does she head? Well, that is one interesting story. It started a few days ago, when this same monk was in a clearing, surrounded by a group of wood fairies she was having a nice conversation with - it always was so refreshing to talk to the little ones, and they always enjoyed a little fable so much, even if they did tend to be unable to catch the meanings of metaphors at all. It was here where she heard something interesting. Apparently, a detective agency was going to be founded in the forest. The fairies were very clear on one point, though - it was most certainly not run by fairies, especially not the three wellknown Mischievous Fairies (with capitals!). On this, the fairies had been highly insistent.

Byakuren chuckles to herself.

Well, something like that merited a look, did it not? For one, someone making sure they do not get conned into, say, stealing some high youkai's panties and getting annihilated is a good idea. And for another... Byakuren has a certain soft spot for fairies, whom she finds, well, really cute, even though she'd probably not put it like that.

And so, today, the great monk is now walking alongside a path in the forest, coincidentally in the direction of a certain publicity counter. And so, ever the perfect curious customer, she stops, smiling with that soothing friendly smile of hers, and looks at the attempt at a building with interest.

"My. A detective agency in the very midst of the forest? Now this is quite unexpected. Good day to you, miss detectives" she adds, doing a friendly half-bow of greeting. It's kind of odd - and probably likely to go to the head of at least one of the trio - how this huge woman, easily as tall as four average fairies on each other's shoulders and obviously really strong, is actually bowing to them and talking to them like perfectly equal and respectable people. Are the disguises working? But then, someone more levelheaded might remember the tales about this tall stranger with the difficult questions that the fairies of the Misty Lake parrot...

That all seems so secondary, though, as Byakuren simply makes some friendly small talk with the small fairies calmly. "How is business going today? Are mysteries calling at your door on this morning?"

For now the first customer seemed to be blissfully unaware of Star.. err May's presence but in her stead another more majestic and large.. like.. HOLY CRAP THIS WOMAN WAS TALL!!! Star gave a nervous little laugh as she stared up at the woman trying to not feel overly imposed just by her appearance. Then she bowed, to them! Did the disguises work?? Did this monstrously huge youkai actually respect them for being detectives?! Was that Sunny actually wearing the suit she spent almost a month making!? TODAY WAS AWESOME!!!

"Why yes indeed this is a detective agency! If you need anything found or retrieved we'll do it! Need to find out if a lover is cheating on you? We'll get the evidence! Have and unsolved murder! We'll track down the culprit!!" Star's enthusiasm almost made her forget that she was trying to disguise her voice and talk like someone who was twice what age she looked like (not that anyone would actually buy it...). So the squeaks of her normal voice poked through in her explanation of their services. After which she cleared her throat and sat down folding her hands together on the counter of the makeshift counter of the stand and gave Byakuren a large grin,

"We had thought we had our first customer but she didn't seem to hear me when I was talking before. What is it we can do for you today miss?" Star composed herself as much as she could and acted like a polite and proper young lady in front of their newest customer. She wasn't going to let this one get away!

"Uwaah...C'mon Luna. Let's go see Star. It kinda sucks here right now."

Luna wondered where Sunny was going, she was sure that Star had simply run off as she does sometimes. However, Sunny seemed to have a specific destination in mind and when they reached it, Luna saw that Star had, instead, opened up a more visible meeting point that just waiting at home.

And in fact, they even had a customer. Luna hurried along behind her sister, letting her speak for now. For some reason, however, the customer didn't reply at all. Luna privately thought that Sunny had, perhaps, done something odd by human standards and weirded out the customer.

Thankfully, another potential customer arrived, and what a potential customer she was. Imposing and yet possessing a sense of... serenity, she was someone that Luna had never met for sure, she would have remembered meeting such a person before.

"My. A detective agency in the very midst of the forest? Now this is quite unexpected. Good day to you, miss detectives"

The person then bowed to them. And not the mocking bows that fairies sometimes get, an actual honest to god bow. Luna didn't know what her sisters thought, but she liked the person, whoever she was. Awkwardly, Luna returned the bow to the best of her ability.

As for the actual greeting, Star seemed to have matters well in hand so Luna was content to just stand where she was, observing the youkai.

Sometime that morning, an innocuous green thing had blown by in the wind, something rather leafy but looking a bit more flowery, but something certainly green, and something certainly small. It was perhaps worth noting and perhaps not, as it is not unusual to see a thing floating in the breeze, although that thing was certainly a thing of great import to somebody.

That somebody was a mostly-unremarkable youkai that came barrelling by nearly fifteen minutes later, tears in her eyes. She was a dog or something, some kind of beast youkai that wouldn't otherwise stand out in a crowd. Well, it was a girl, that was pretty natural, and that girl had two tails. Two-tails passed by the sign and bolted another ten feet before double-taking, screeching to a halt, and sprinting back to the sign. She narrowly missed the charming monk as she nearly fell to her knees in front of the fairy trio.

She said something or other that was only slightly more notable than she was, if only because it was tough to understand thanks to her crying and hysteria.

"You...you're dedegdives? Real dedegdives? That's...that's gread! You needda help me, I loss some'ing really really impordan and I thoud it game this way but I lost it and I 'unno where iddis annI need it or Ran-shama'll be mad!"

Of course, this impordan thing was her hat, her FAVORITE hat, something she felt she needed to stand out among youkai, and something given to her especially by Yukari-sama.

Sunny had thought they had a customer and now they didn't, but now they did! It was a convoluted series of developments but Sunny was pleased with this new customer. She seemed to really respect them! Hell, she even bowed to them. Now that's service~

With a charming moustache wiggle, Sunny positioned herself in front of Byakuren and nodded curtly to her.

"My highly underdressed sister is correct, giant woman! We can get back any item that needs getbacking, regardless of the danger! In fact, the more dangerous the better! And for a special price...", she leaned forward in a clandestine manner. "...we can make with the killings of those that need to be killed."

Sunny was not entirely sure who they could kill or if it was even possible for three moderately powerful fairies to even confront a youkai and live through it but, it was worth a shot, right?

"All for the low, low price of some sweets and a can of roast coffee beans! Oh, my name is Amber Woodunder, by the way! Nice to meetcha!"

She extended her hand to Byakuren in an intent to shake hers, only to be interrupted by a barreling, abnormally cute cat youkai with two tails and a disposition sweet enough to kill multiple sufferers of diabetes. If there was one thing Sunny hated (this was a misnomer, Sunny hates a lot of things) it was being in the presence of someone assumed more adorable than herself.

"G'day cat-girl! WElcome to the Three Sisters Detective Agency: finders of all things needing founding and killers of the weak and ineffectual! I am Amy Rockspitter. So, waddya need found?"

Byakuren smiles at the fairies' enthusiasm, friendly. Indeed, a couple hundred years of diplomacy and trickery before her sealing left Byakuren with the best poker face this side of faceless ghosts, and so she is perfectly polite even as inside she's chuckling good-naturedly at the disguises' see-through nature.

"Oh my, that sounds like quite a dangerous job. Though it does not seem like killing anyone should be necessary in this world of ours, is it?" she sounds a bit concerned at Sunny's words, in a classic bystander older woman way. "In any case, this is quite the serendipitous encounter, as I might-" the monk cuts herself, and turns to look curiously at the road a few seconds before a cat goes by, almost blazing in speed, and then backtracks.

She lets the cat speak without a bother, listening to the trouble that could send her so over the edge. When Chen finishes, though, Byakuren kneels down, smiling soothingly, and pets the poor now-hatless nekomata, motherly. The deduction is rather easy. "Calm down, Chen. I am certain these three ladies will find your hat. I will even go and help them, too, so we are finished sooner. And we will of course not tell miss Ran. You need not cry". As she says this she turns her head slightly to "Amber", still kneeling and so more or less on the fairy's face level, with a questioning "because you'll do it, right?" look...

Re: [Open] The Three Sisters Detective Agency

Postby Chiyuri Kitashirakawa » 15 Jul 2010 18:47

Star's -- sorry, May Greenfield's words didn't seem to reach Chiyuri after all when she had first passed by. Even when the Sunny of many names tried to catch her attention, she seemed off in her own little world. For someone who came to Gensokyo on a mission of SCIENCE, she was rather uncharacteristically inattentive. Really, she was still exhibiting behavior expected of a scientist - she was going through all the possibilities of what might've happened to Yumemi and what might yet happen, though eventually they went from plausibile to downright silly.

Which was about the time she snapped out of her daze and realized she had walked right past what she had been looking for in the first place.

After turning on a dime and jogging back over to the stand, Chiyuri gave it a good lookover. The stand looked like something she'd see a lemonade pitcher at, not detectives, especially coupled with how petit they were. At least their clothes more or less fit the part. Two others had already lined up in the sailor's abscence, too; one was a woman whose most defining trait was either a tossup between her hair or her sheer height. The other was a relatively normal animal youkai bawling her eyes out, who looked even shorter than usual thanks to the contrast the calm and diplomatic monk set up by virtue of having to kneel to pet her.

"Woah, uh, awkward..." murmured Chiyuri before walking up, peering around Byakuren's shoulder. Seeing Chen made a serious lump in the human girl's throat - while sympathetic towards for the cat girl's problems, the sight made Chiyuri chastise herself for being so cold about the mess she came back to solve. Haha, cold. Yeah right. "Gee, I hope whatever happened will turn out alright," she said in the most assuring way she could muster before leaving the nekomata in the monk's apparently-capable hands and turning to the sisters. "So, uh, you're detectives, right? What'll be the price for finding someone for me?"

Chen's problem seemed.... to small. It was only a hat.. why was it so important anyways.. ITS A HAT! It was then that May remembered how much she got upset when she lost clothing, and all the feelings of 'Why?' turned into sympathy for the Nekomata, but she couldn't seem to stop sobbing long enough to respond to Star or the large woman who seemed to be trying to comfort her as well. In this time their original customer seemed to have wandered back to the stand and Star stood up, proudly placing her hands on her hips striking a pose she had invented to go with the detective agency, sadly it had nothing to do with finding things, it was simply to be cute mostly,

"Welcome to the Three Sisters Detective Agency! We'll gladly look for a lost person the payment will be.. will be... um... " Star stopped and thought for a moment, all her planning had gone into preparation for the stand and what they were going to do and how they'd even try and find certain things. Rewards? That wasn't something she even gave the slightest consideration too. Coming up with a quick solution she smiled brightly towards Chiyuri and nodded confidently,

"We'll take two pounds of coffee, some undergarments and some freshly cooked food as payment upon retrieval of your lost person. Now would you be so kind as to describe this person to us so we can locate her as quickly as possible?!" Star's energy immediately returned as she leaned in close to Chiyuri and listened intently. Those items seemed to be a fair trade... for them.

Aha! Star had the right attitude and Sunny didn't even have to tell her! Coffee for Luna, clothes for Star and food for Sunny - perfection! perhaps this endeavour would not be a total failure. That's what Sunny hoped and what she believed she was getting. With a nod to Chiyuri, she spoke.

"That'll do for payment, but don't forget to bring sweets! That's important. Write that down.", she proclaimed. "Anyhow, we'll find yer friend in no time! Just give us a description and where she was last seen. Oh, and what she likes to do. Oh, and a picture if you can. Oh, and an item of her clothing too. Yes, that'll do. Hell, we'll find the kitty-girl's hat while we're at it cuz we're nice people like that! Ain't that right, Giant Woman?"

Of course they were nice folk - to the right people that is. As long as they treated Sunny and her sisters like people and not fairies everything was a-ok. Oh, and only if you had a moderate to small chest. Byakuren got a pass on that mostly because she eminated an aura of calm serenity.

If so, there was now another person the fairies would treat nicely, and she was relatively calm to boot.

It would be hard for Tewi to not notice the ongoing commotion by that strange little stand over there, and even harder for her not to check it out.

"Good day, good day~!" She waved her hand to greet the small assembly.

The rabbit knew some of the people in there, but the most interesting bunch had got to be those three fairies in their outlandish costumes. From the looks of things, they seemed to be the ones in charge of this stall, providing the service of...

"...'Three Sisters Detectives', huh?" Well, if nothing else, these guys sure are pretty creative. Tewi chuckled as she read the board and turned toward the private dicks.

...If she called them that out loud, the situation would probably devolve into a heated danmaku battle in no time, though. While that might be pretty exciting in its own right, there might be other ways to have more fun with these fairies...

"I see business is pretty good around here," she attempted to start a conversation with them.
