Forum Rules

Forum Rules

1: Allowable Characters: Roleplay at PoIR is limited to characters from official Touhou Project books, manga, and games on both the PC-98 and Windows platforms.

For more details and a full list of playable characters, check the Touhou PoIR Character List.

A note on supporting characters:
You may include NPCs such as shopkeepers or minor fairies as throwaway extras. They shouldn't be developed beyond the role of a background character.

2: Use the Canon as a Guide: Adhere to canon as closely as possible. While we do allow leeway in your interpretation of official material, you shouldn't contradict established facts about characters, locations, or events (Cirno cannot be a genius, no matter how hard you meme).

3: Post Length: Aim to keep post lengths consistent with the theming of the thread, as well as the limits of other participants. Remember, this isn't a chat roleplay or a novel-writing competition.

4: Writing Standards: Proper language structure is strongly encouraged. You don't have to be an amazing writer, but you should be able to coherently express your thoughts and ideas in any dialect of English.

5: The Fourth Wall: Posts should be written from the perspective of your character, a resident of Gensokyo. Refrain from breaking the fourth wall without a reasonable stylistic purpose.

6: Ask Before Involving Others: Consult other players before including their characters in your narrative. It may be a good idea to plan your threads out together, but this is by no means required.

7: Keep Options Open: Avoid limiting other players' options in your posts. Do not write other players' characters for them or make assumptions on how they will react in your posts. This is called Godmoding, and only jerks do it.

8: Sexual Roleplay: Keep threads PG-13. Write explicit scenes in PMs if you wish, but for Shinki's sake, unless it's an unwanted advance, don't tell us about it.

9: In-Character Relationships: Relationships between characters are allowed in the RP, but use the same discretion you would with a person in real life - don't force relationships onto other players that they may not agree or be comfortable with.

10: IC/OOC Separation: There is a border between Gensokyo and Real Life. Your interactions with other players shouldn't affect the interactions between your characters, and vice versa.

11: Permanent Effects of Combat: Combat may not have permanent effects, except at the discretion of the moderators. Killing or maiming a character will have a very negative impact on the roleplay environment (unless it's Mokou or Kaguya - then, fair game).

12: Alternate Characters: You may play up to two characters at a time, a Main and an Alt. A Main is guaranteed to be yours unless you drop or are recast, but any player may take an Alt as a Main if they have been held by the same player for longer than two months. See the Application Guidelines for more information.

13: Have Fun: Above everything else, have fun! These rules only exist to ensure a mature and enjoyable environment, so relax and have a good time.

Activity Scans

Activity Scans

Each Saturday, at 2200 UTC (10:00 PM GMT), we will check each character account's activity in the IC forums. This is to ensure that players are posting regularly and in a timely manner.

If you do not post for four consecutive weeks, you will be given an strike, and every week thereafter that you do not make a post will earn you an additional strike.

Additionally, you will recieve a strike for 'stalling' a thread if you do not post within a week of your turn arriving. For the purpose of activity, we consider it to be your turn if all other characters in a thread have made a post since your last.

You will receive a warning via PM if you are about to get a strike for idling. You will receive an additional warning when you are one strike away from a recast.

A strike will be cleared if a character does not recieve any further strikes for two consecutive scan periods.

In the event that a character gets three strikes, they will be recast. If a player has two characters, they may choose which to keep.

Players who have been recast will not be allowed to apply for any character, either the same or another, for 28 days. This extends to applying for a secondary character. If a player has had their characters recast several times, they may be permanently restricted to a single character or barred from the forum at the moderators' discretion.

If you'd like to take time off or won't be able to post for some time, you may take up to four scans off every quarter (Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, Jul-Sep, Oct-Dec) in the form of a hiatus.

Posting a hiatus notifies both moderators and other players of your absence, and will grant you amnesty from earning strikes during the scans it covers. Please post hiatus as far in advance as possible; if you call for hiatus but are still able to post as normal during that time, your hiatus time will be refunded.

If you feel that you have received a strike in error, please fill out the following template and send it to a moderator via PM.

Subject: Strike Appeal – <Character Name> <Date of Strike>
Details: Please provide any pertinent information, such as the relevant thread, whether you willingly skipped a turn or if you had posted a hiatus.

We will contact you with the result. If your appeal is accepted, the strike will be nullified. If the appeal is rejected, then the strike remains on record. All decisions are final.

Reporting to Moderators
We encourage you to contact a moderator if you feel another player is causing problems on the forum, either in threads or in PMs. Reports can be made through PM, or by using the Anonymous Suggestions Box if you would rather remain anonymous.

Subject: Problem Report – <Character/Player Name>
Details: Please provide details on the exact problem, including a link to the relevant post or quote from a PM (if applicable).

Some examples of behavior that we frown upon:
  • Thread bombing
  • Godmoding
  • Spamming
  • Straying too far from canon
  • Abusive behaviour (personal insults and attacks, etc.)

This is In no way is this an exhaustive list; if you feel you are having issues, do not hesitate to send in reports.
