[Open to SDM] Nursing Wounds

Locations of interest: Ruined Western Mansion, Scarlet Devil Mansion
Forum rules
The river that flows down the Youkai Mountain drains into this lake. The poor visibility over the lake and the surrounding forests makes it appear to be very large, although one can easily walk around it. It is inhabited by behemothic fish.

Located on a ridge near the lake is the Scarlet Devil Mansion. A grand building of European styling, with few windows, an extensive basement, and an interior warped and enlarged through magical means. The clock tower houses a turret clock that only tolls at night.

Also nearby is the former Prismriver mansion. Once the home of the aristocratic Prismriver family, it now lies ruined and forgotten save by the three poltergeist sisters that remain.

Sakuya wavered in the air, struggling a little to maintain her altitude, torn uniform flapping loudly in the light breeze that was forever present so high above the world. Numerous wounds, still fresh and stinging in the cold wind, slowly bled, the crimson fluid soaking into what was left of her uniform or falling down and dissipating in the Misty Lake far below. She didn't let herself waver, even with her unsteady flight. She was leading Momiji back to the mansion. As a result, even hurt as she was, she fought to maintain her title to the best of her ability. Perfect maid.

The fight had been intense, both parties suffering numerous wounds. It was for this reason she didn't think the end result of the fight could be properly called. It was a draw, plain and simple. It was rare, really, that she had the opportunity to engage in such vicious combat. It really brought out the best in her, even if they had pressed the danmaku rules a little bit. There wasn't a doubt in her mind that both of them still had the will to fight, but she had lost some blood and a great deal of power, her opponent even more so. If not for her human limitations, victory would have been secured.

No point in dwelling on the past now, though it was difficult not to. Much of the flight had been in silence, each moment passing slowly. They had rested momentarily, Sakuya taking a few moments to remove the knives that were causing more damage by moving and the ones that she knew had not hit any major arteries. They were near the end of their journey now, the mansion was coming into view through the mist of the lake, its outline large and imposing, the clock tower glowing brightly in the failing light.

Sakuya glanced back over her shoulder, resisting the urge to nurse her arm. The wolf tengu had it far worse than she was now. Numerous knives protruded from her in several places, some of them quite deep. Even with the ones she had managed to remove during their rest, it had been too dangerous to remove a lot of them. The risk of additional damage or bleeding was too great for the silver haired woman to feel comfortable risking it. It was only fortunate that the hunting silver her knives were forged from didn't seem to have any additional negative effects on the tengu like they would on devils, ghosts, and a handful of other youkai. "We're almost there Momiji. Are you holding up okay?"

Momiji followed close beside the maid, ready to grab her former opponent should she falter, and expecting Sakuya would do the same. Though her flight was shaky, the guardswoman managed to stay airborne in spite of her injuries. She was, for once, slowed by her sword, as even without her injuries, Momiji was scarcely able to keep a grip on the weapon due to exhaustion, and it wound up dragging behind her. As neither felt the urge to speak, much of the flight passed in silence, giving the swordswoman plenty of time to run through the fight in her mind. The more she reviewed, the more she was reminded of her crippling inadequacy at danmaku combat.

Sakuya’s words snapped Momiji far enough out of her thoughts to notice the impending form of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. While she often saw it from atop Youkai Mountain, its majesty simply could not be appreciated from such a distance, even with the guardswoman’s incredible eyesight. Collecting her thoughts enough to answer the maid’s question, Momiji replied flatly, “I’m well enough to make it the rest of the way.” Turning to look at the human beside her, she added, “Will you make it?” a bit of concern slipping into her voice.

Meiling was standing at her post, waiting. Time seemed to be crawling by. Not many had passed by the gate today, but even so, the minutes seemed to feel longer. It was probably because of Sakuya's second match. Meiling had wanted to observe it herself in person, but she knew that would be impossible. She told herself not to worry, that Sakuya would no doubt be victorious. After all, did she not know how skilled and dangerous the maid could be? Even so, mental discipline can only do so much to banish idle thoughts. Duty is sometimes the best distraction of all, and so Meiling put the matter out of her mind as she patrolled around the mansion grounds. It all seemed so quiet at this hour.

The light would be giving way to darkness soon. Meiling slowed her pace above the walls, her eyes moving unbidden to the mansion grounds' interior. Even now, having seen it so many times, she still took that moment every patrol to seize this opportunity. To take in the beauty of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. It was a tradition for her and every time she performed it, she reminded herself to never let it grow in her mind dull, ordinary, anything less than the elegant marvel it was. Her patrol continued. She soared over the top of the mansion back to the front. Back to the gate.

“Hmm?” Something moved in the corner of Meiling's eye. She slowed her flight, hovering in the air, one hand over her eye to stop the dying light from making it harder to see through the mist than it already was. Meiling thought it looked like...Yes, yes it was indeed Sakuya, and she was not alone. The two figures flew towards the mansion, though it appeared they did so with difficulty. All at once the worries she had tried to dismiss rose up again and a look of deep concern A part of Meiling wished to rush out to help them, fly them the rest of the short way before they could even say a word. A part of her insisted, but she knew better than to indulge it. Pride was a creature easily hurt and took long to heal.

No, Meiling knew what it was she must do instead. She straightened her beret, took a deep breath to steady her inner fears, and put a great big smile on her face. She was the gate guard of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. It was her face that people would see when entering, and she did her best to make sure it was a pleasant one. There would be time for worrying later. In private.

“Welcome home~! I take it you both survived your match then. Do you need my help with anything?”

Sakuya was glad to hear that Momiji would be able to make it to the mansion. Even if the maid was ready to assist the wolf tengu should her flight waver, there was no guarantee that she would be able to do much more than ensure they both don't crash into the ground. The maid simply did not have the strength, nor the energy, to bear the weight of another person at the moment. All she could do was keep moving forward.

Sakuya could not put to words the relief she felt as Meiling came into view. She gave a silent whisper of thanks to whatever deity would listen that Meiling had been on the correct side of the mansion to spot their approach. It would make the treating of both of their injuries a lot faster. Even still, she hastened her flight a little, fueled by the knowledge that she would soon have something soft to rest on and a hot cup of tea to soothe her ragged nerves. Well, if she had the strength and will to make tea… soothing her injuries and a nice spot to sit were enough for now.

The maid was so wrapped up in her own thoughts, she almost missed the gate guard's greeting, quickly coming close enough for the severity of both of their injuries to be quite apparent, despite sakuya's continued efforts to keep them hidden. She finally caved to her own desires, reaching over to cradle her injured arm as she came within comfortable shouting range of the gate guard.

"Meiling!" Her voice felt a bit weaker than usual but it pleased her that it was still sharp and clear. "Go prepare some medical supplies!"

Focusing on landing, she dipped down, clearing the gate, the garden, the pathway, the hedges, and landed slowly, gently on the front stoop. She didn't feel comfortable trying to slip in through one of the windows and landing on a balcony would mean tracking blood through one of the rooms and she certainly didn't want that headache to clean up later. Especially in this condition. She took a long moment to steady herself before opening the front door, only then bothering to look back over her shoulder, hoping that Momiji was right behind her, or at least able to clear the wall without trouble.

As they approached the mansion further, the tengu and the maid were greeted by a woman in green. “A fellow servant of hers, it seems” Momiji thought, judging by the way Sakuya greeted the woman. Hopefully she would be able tend to their wounds. Neither the white wolf nor her former opponent were in any shape to perform any more delicate first aid. It was a relief, knowing that they would soon be able to rest.

Landing, however, went somewhat awkwardly for Momiji. Though the guardswoman followed Sakuya’s descent easily, as her feet hit the ground she was reminded why only the tengu considered single-heeled geta to be usable footware. Her reflexes and balance failing her, she was carried forward by her momentum and, after stumbling forward a step, tumbled forward, managing to throw her sword slightly to the side to avoid landing on it as she rolled forward, closing her eyes and praying to any gods listening that she didn’t drive any knives further in. After everything was still again, Momiji opened her eyes to find herself laying on her back in front of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, with Sakuya looking back at her.

Chuckling slightly, the swordswoman reached over to grab her blade, which she then used to slowly push herself to her feet, balancing carefully to avoid falling over. Cautiously shuffling towards the maid, Momiji forced a smile in an attempt to reassure her, though it was hardly convincing. Despite the fact that the fall had only put her in further pain, the guardswoman stubbornly forced herself towards Sakuya, not wanting to show weakness.

Among the more carefree members of the residence was the librarian's assistant. While she certainly knew of Sakuya's work of late, the little devil had not been too involved (and as such, none too concerned) with much of the events. Aside from paying some praise or attention here and there, she has been quite apart from the would-be festivities. Even so, that did not stop her curiosity from taking over when it became clear that the maid was making her return.

By a small chance, she had been passing by a window near the entrance just as Sakuya was arriving. The injuries she and the tengu following her were enough to make the devil stop and shudder at the thought of having the same injuries. The small bit of shock then evaporated when she heard Sakuya request medical materials. She effectively floated over to the door and opened it up to the outside. Rather than actively over-providing for the worry that the gate guard likely already had in bulk.

“I'll hurry up and go get something in her place, I'll be back soon!” Koakuma said in an energetic voice, giving a somewhat serious gesture of compliance to the gatekeeper before fleeing the scene to make way for the nearest place she could find with first aid items. As she went on she thought about the the fairly intense injuries that the maid and the tengu had, wondering exactly how they got so bad with the spellcard rules. The ideas passed on once she got to her destination, working fast to gather up what she needed to with haste befitting of a servant. A few bandages here, some ointment there, and a little bit of everything found its way into a box and retrieved. Then just as quickly she started back toward the entrance, caring not for the maids that got blown back by the gust she created in her wake.

As soon as she arrived though, the little devil carried the box carefully over to the others before placing it on one of the steps and starting to gather up the materials she might need. She had no medical experience, so most of it was just simple guesses over what to use. “I can try to clean some of the injuries, but I'm not sure what I should do about the knife. Looks a little hard to work with that with my training...” ...which was none. She avoided making jokes though, but the temptation was there.

Even as Sakuya requested the medical supplies, Meiling was carefully looking them both over, to know what needed to be treated and in what order. A little bit of her worry was relieved by how quickly and sharply the maid managed to speak. Meiling didn't answer immediately, however, as she still needed to make her list. She observed the way they held themselves, which parts of their body seemed most affected by pain. Pain and injury blocked the flow of energy. She'd need to help relieve the blocks so that they could heal faster. From the entrance of the mansion came a very fast and excited voice, saying she'd get what was needed. "Hmm? Ah, seems someone is already on it~" The guard smiled at the injured. They were clearly in pain, but being stubborn about asking for help.

Meiling drifted down and landed between the two of them. "As for the two of you, I'm afraid I must insist on helping support you both, rather than letting you walk in pain." She offered her shoulder to both of them, putting her arms around them to keep them from collapsing onto each other and began to move carefully across the grounds to the entrance. It was no extreme feat for the gate guard. She could have carried the two if she had needed to, giving them her shoulder was easy enough. From inside, Meiling could hear upset shouts from the maids, suddenly sent flying across the hall. It seemed the little devil wasn't wasting time, which was good.

"Thanks for gathering those so quickly. Though I wouldn't unpack them here yet. We should bring these two inside so they can sit. Would you mind preparing one of the rooms for that, Koakuma?" Meiling was still smiling, knowing that it was better if everyone remained calm. Too much excitement could lead to trouble in treatment. "This shouldn't be much trouble. Though I think you should both rest for a while after we've got you cleaned up..." Her first aid training was not formal, but she knew enough to treat basic wounds. She hoped that Sakuya's knives had not gone so deep that the wound wouldn't close. As for the tengu's effect on the maid, Meiling couldn't know for certain from just a glance.

After this, when her worries were gone, she'd personally make some tea for these two. The gate could wait for a moment.

The maid visibly flinched as Momiji tumbled forward. It was for reasons such as that she rarely wore heels. Especially during any sort of combat situation, despite their potential usefulness as weapons. She was hesitant to help the tengu, however. Pride was something that the tengu put great value in.

A voice pulled her from her thoughts, the maid turning her attention back to the mansion. She was somewhat surprised to see Koakuma outside of the library, especially at such an hour, but she also wasn't about to look a gift horse in the mouth. Another pair of hands, even ones as inexperienced in medicine as Koakuma's, would be appreciated right now. Especially considering how much her own were trembling. She balled them into fists, taking a steady breath. Now was not the time to show weakness, nor let herself be slowed by it. She was going to need a steady hand and clear mind to remove the knives cleanly and safely.

She was so distracted she didn't even notice Meiling coming along side her until the youkai's strong arm wrapped around her, supporting most of her weight. She bit back a small protest, forcing down her own pride before glancing up at the redhead as she allowed her weight to shift, entrusting it to her. "Thank you Meiling."

The maid then looked to the newly arrived devil. Treating injuries outside wouldn't be advised, especially considering the knives that still were embedded inside momiji… "Take the supplies to the western study. It's clean and empty save for the usual tables and chairs. It would be a good place to treat injuries. Few things to get in the way and few things to bleed on."

Focusing her mind solely on putting one foot in front of the other without falling, Momiji let out a small gasp of surprise when the red-haired woman came to help her, catching her off guard. While she almost wanted to protest, the swordswoman swallowed her pride and simply murmured out, “Thanks,” slightly relieved that she wouldn’t have to blunt her sword by using it as a cane.

She was glad that another woman had gone and gotten medical supplies and chimed in tiredly, "I have some knowlege of first aid - at least enough to keep us from dying. Hopefully." Having no idea as to the layout of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, Momiji simply attempted to catch her breath, following the lead of those who called the building home.

“The western study, right? I understand, hehe.” The devil nods a few times in response to the order from the maid. She hardly says anything, but the threat of leaving a trail of blood in their wake quickly comes to mind. Although the image is nothing so glorious, for some reason the devil could not imagine a more impressive image of such a thing. Her active imagination makes her laugh without warning, but by then she was already heading toward the study.

This time however she would not go too far ahead of the group, keeping within a decent distance of the others just in case she might be needed to assist. Her focus was particularly on the tengu, who looked to be having a decent bit of challenge with moving. Some time before they would arrive at the room, she decided to speak. “I can help you walk if you need it. Those wounds are quite the handicap.” She says this while only slightly slowing, still focused on getting to the study with the injured.

Meiling raised her eyebrow as the devil started to giggle. She had been smiling, it was true, but it seemed rather odd to laugh at this sight. Still, another person helping was a good thing, no matter their reactions. She shook her head and let it pass. "Heh, no problem, Sakuya~ Following the devil~" The red haired guard adjusted their weight to give her better mobility and started walking slowly, making sure not to aggravate their wounds. "Let's hurry before Lady Remilia sees the state of her foyer~"

It wasn't that easy to move supporting them both, not quickly anyway. Still they WERE making progress. Meiling watched the carpet behind them from the corner of her eye. I'll make sure to help with whatever clean up there is, do a nice thing for Sakuya, especially if she's recovering! Koakuma seemed to notice they were moving pretty slowly as well. Her arms weren't tired in the slightest from holding the two, but was still worried about them. The sooner they got to the study, the better it would be. "How are you holding up you two?"

Sakuya had finally given in and was now leaning against Meiling, allowing the youkai to hold most of her weight. She was a bit more worried about Momiji though, but seeing as she wasn't human, she should recover okay. Her own injuries weren't fatal but this would certainly slow her work down if steps weren't taken, even after this basic treatment. Blood loss fatigue she could deal with. Time allowed for her to move more slowly if needed, but issues would arise if she found herself incapable of doing things. On top of that her appearance...

"I should probably arrange something with Eientei..." She didn't even realize she was voicing her thoughts. "My Lady would be upset if I scarred."

She looked up as they entered the room in question, the magic lights on the walls flickering to life. It was mostly empty, devoid even of the decorations that covered the rest of the mansion's interior save for several paintings. Furniture wise it had several tables and desks and with a large cushioned couch framing a smaller table.

"Just at the table will be fine. The couch would be much more difficult to clean."

“I’ve had worse,” Momiji responded to the green-clad woman’s concern, “I’ve lived through a lot of fights – one more won’t kill me.” Though her tone was solemn, it was somewhat strained – an indication that the white wolf was not quite as well as she’d like the others to think.

As they came into the study, Momiji pulled away from Meiling, pride guiding her actions even in her poor condition. She gritted her teeth as she put one shaky foot in front of the other, a low growl escaping her throat. Though the tengu seemed constantly about to fall over, she managed to make it to a table, where she would sit down and begin unstrapping her shield, having placed her sword down by the entrance to the room when she entered. Solemnly, she sits there, feeling a bit embarrassed as she realizes how she let her pride get the better of her. Her movements slower and less forced, her pride having been tempered by shame, she turns and lays down on the table, gripping the table preemptively as she looks down at her body and the knives that are still sticking out of it – one from her shoulder, one from near her stomach, and a third in her thigh.
