[Open] An Innocent Mansion Excursion

Locations of interest: Ruined Western Mansion, Scarlet Devil Mansion
Forum rules
The river that flows down the Youkai Mountain drains into this lake. The poor visibility over the lake and the surrounding forests makes it appear to be very large, although one can easily walk around it. It is inhabited by behemothic fish.

Located on a ridge near the lake is the Scarlet Devil Mansion. A grand building of European styling, with few windows, an extensive basement, and an interior warped and enlarged through magical means. The clock tower houses a turret clock that only tolls at night.

Also nearby is the former Prismriver mansion. Once the home of the aristocratic Prismriver family, it now lies ruined and forgotten save by the three poltergeist sisters that remain.

For one brief, minuscule moment, Tenshi was stunned. Rarely had anyone ever spoken to her in such a unyielding manner that Remilia had been doing. After all, being the spoiled and pampered child of the Hinanawi clan meant that no one would dare to even think of speaking to her like that. Such harsh words. Such unrelenting insults coming from the small mouth of a child.

And yet Tenshi just couldn't stop grinning.

Yes...Yes! This was how it was meant to be like! Tenshi expected no less from a confrontation between two people fated to be sworn enemies; a vampire and a vampire hunter (self-proclaimed)! While all a game to Tenshi, she didn't want anything less then a real, all-out battle from the vampire girl. Granted, such feelings were most likely one-sided on Tenshi's half. This, however, mattered little to the selfish celestial. As long as Remilia did well to entertain her, Tenshi could care less of the scarlet devil's thoughts. After all, all of Gensokyo was nothing more then her large play box!

Tenshi watched as sky grew dark with Remilia's small scaled scarlet mist. Upon realizing it was the same mist used during that one incident, Tenshi nearly found herself trembling with excitement. Incidents were what kept Gensokyo fun and interesting! Just the thought of being able to reenact a past incident did well to get the girl's blood boiling! Of course, Tenshi would do well to hide such emotion. Couldn't have herself slipping out of character now.

"Heh...Glory?" Tenshi repeated, brows raising in amusement, "Sorry to disappoint you, devil, but my goal is nothing more then to vanquish evil like you for the sake of the humans." That, of course, was a complete lie. "Whether or not you can handle your own weaknesses is not my problem." The girl paused as she looked to the eclipsed sky, grin still apparent on her face. "Well, I guess it would have been a bit disappointing if you were to suddenly turn to ash in the middle of our fight. You have my thanks for at least doing well to keep things entertaining for me." In truth, had Remilia not to have done her scarlet misty trick, Tenshi would've taken the chance to show off a bit by changing the weather to something more cloudy. While a bit bummed that Remilia had beaten her to the punch, this did little to damper her good mood.

After having to deal with the last bit of verbal abuse from the little vampire, Tenshi was just about ready to begin putting the girl in her place. "You really don't hold back, do you? Well, it'll just make it all the more satisfying should I defeat you," Tenshi replied, lifting up her Whip of Hisou.

"Now...Fall to the earth, devil of scarlet!"

The echoing crack of Tenshi's whip would mark the start of their duel. In the near blink of an eye, Tenshi had rocketed herself up into the air by causing a pillar of earth sprung from beneath her like a makeshift spring. Doing a quick back spin through the air, the celestial began swinging her weapon again and again and again; up, down, and all around. With each swing came a stream of scarlet bullets, raining down upon the earth like an endless storm of needles. While not aiming specifically for Remilia, the bullets were in great enough number to where aim wasn't a problem. One thing was for sure though...

Letty was wise to have made a shield.

The snow woman in truth did not expect people to try and squeeze between her and a shield that didn't even really cover her entire body. She was rather hoping to be able to figure out a good way to hit bullets back at people reliably, which would have meant moving around a fair bit. Now that she had a catgirl using her shield as well... She didn't have the raw water handy to just increase and reinforce her shield, but she'd be a failure as a snow woman if she couldn't come up with an alternative. Since this location is the Misty Lake, she decided to start using her own brand of magic to draw in moisture from the air to gradually expand her shield, and the appearance of this act made it look like the shield was sucking in white streams from the air itself to grow. It more or less kept the properties of the original shield, such as its mirror sheen and clarity, but it was getting larger. "I haven't seen these two fight personally, so I can't say. I do think it will be interesting though." The snow woman did reply to the nekomata taking advantage of her cover.

In time the shield was starting to look less like something a giant buckler and more like a tower shield one would use to, well, put a large wall of metal between you and your opponent. Just made out of ice that was purposely constructed to deflect danmaku instead. She didn't really have much to add when Elis decided to do the sensible thing and hide behind the only person with the presence of mind to construct a shield rather than try to dodge what was most likely going to be a hailstorm of magic bullets. While Remilia seemed like the type to be more elegant and precise, the celestial... Well, if rumors of her were true, her fighting style was just as likely to level the landscape as it was her opponent.

After that, the grandstanding between powerhouses really began. Remilia had gone and set the stage for the fight by darkening they sky with a scarlet mist, which she noted and purposely avoided drawing in both because she wasn't going to do anything to annoy the vampiress, and because she wasn't sure how her shield's properties would change if she drew in something like that. She left it be while continuing to strip away the natural mist from the lake and its surroundings.

Then the torch was passed to the celestial, who responded with grandstanding on a level equal of that of the vampiress, albeit with a slightly less impressive display since the Scarlet Devil had opted to change the weather with her own hand as she declared her intent. The dialog went on a tension grew as the celestial cracked her whip to declare the start of the battle, then did something she had most definitely not seen before: Catapult herself into the air with a pillar of earth to gain a height advantage. The part that came next was actually decidedly less impressive somehow. The blue-haired peach hat was simply flinging bullets all over the place in something that could only very loosely be declared a danmaku pattern. "Hm..." She finally decided to speak again as she saw this display and the bullets closed in. "It seems like the celestial's fighting style may leave something to be desired if she's just using raw force like that." Plus it wasn't even that awe-inspiring. She was beat down by Marisa Kirisame herself after all, who had decided to just blow her away with Master Spark as opposed to actually fighting her. Granted, she wasn't taking the fight particularly seriously but that was just rude.

That aside, she watched in satisfaction as those scarlet bullets were not simply bounced away in random directions, but rebounded off the shield she had created and were ricocheted back at the celestial at the exact angle they had been fired out at originally.Would it even do anything at this stage? Possibly not. She had never heard of anyone purposely trying to reflect danmaku back in the offender's face before, and had no idea if the simple act of reflection was enough to make them change ownership and in turn smack the offending originator in the face or not. Still, the more important part was that the shield was holding and would probably take a much more significant beating before she had to do something like draw in more lake water to reinforce damaged parts of the shield. Assuming the fight got that intense.

Elis' focus sharpened as Remilia began to summon the scarlet mist, raising an eyebrow. What is this? I've never seen a spell like this before... it almost looks like the Miasma in Makai... almost. Her eyes continued to follow the mist as it shot into the sky. A smirk formed as she realised what it was doing. Very clever. Very clever indeed. And handy, this means I don't have to wear this blasted cloak any more.

Taking the opportunity, she took the heavy cloak from her shoulders and pointed her wand at it with a flick of the wrist, shooting a small beam of light at it and making it shrink to the size of a handkerchief, before placing it in one of her pockets and flexing her wings with a sigh. That damn thing was a chore to wear, really strains the wings. That and now she didn't have to worry about weakening without it. A win-win in her books.

Still, now the Innocent Devil could focus completely on the unfolding battle, and this 'Tenshi' person still seemed to be spouting pretentious nonsense, irksome at best this one seemed to be. Her eyes shot up following the Celestial's ascent. What's this? Some sort of... geomancy maybe? No, it doesn't feel like magic... must just be an ability of her race... shame, would have been a nice addition. Still... Elis' eyes narrowed and she clicked her tongue in annoyance. She doesn't even try to aim does she. How unprofessional.

The vampire and the celestial are quite alike in some ways. Both are the type who wish to be entertained. Both believe themselves to be in a status far elevated above the plebeians around them. Both found themselves bored enough to wedge themselves into situations that didn't really need them. But the main difference is that Remilia had mastered the art of subtlety. Her intentions were not always obvious, her end game hidden away from the eyes of the uncouth. She would be unlikely to just waltz up to someone's front door and challenge them to a fight. Not without a good purpose at least!

This fight, of course, served no purpose. Remilia would prefer to just be left alone, she HAD been sleeping after all. Failing that, she would have preferred to entertain the more polite guests that had gathered in front of her home. She certainly had little interest in the celestial. Once the woman's little stunt with the weather had ended, she had faded from the vampire's mind. Unimportant information, cast aside when it was no longer a source of entertainment, though not forgotten. While it was not the only source of it, knowledge was power. And Remilia enjoyed being seen as powerful. Likely another thing that she shared with this woman who had, for some reason, decided that the two were enemies.

The blink of a human eye was not the same as that of a vampire. What might have seemed too swift to easily see in the eyes of a human was hardly so to the centuries old Remilia. Her eyes had no problem following the celestial's path as she shoots herself into the sky and begins to rain energy on her. There isn't any worry on the Scarlet Devil's face. All she feels is a mild annoyance at that fact that someone was going to have to end up cleaning this afterwards, and it was unlike this simple minded girl would know how to do it.

Sending out needles of energy was most assuredly not standard vampire hunter protocol! It requires some fancy maneuvering to make her way through that crimson hailstorm. This was not a simple matter of stepping a little bit in one direction. It requires the vampire to show off a bit of her agility. The speed she is moving at would be difficult for the human eye to follow, but perhaps the eyes of a celestial would have better luck? Dashing through openings, a few of which were so small she had to draw her wings close to her body and flip into a little ball of vampire, she kept her eyes peeled for a better opening and, when she finally found it, the vampire made her move! Flying at breakneck speed, she does a flying spiral out of the remaining wave of bullets, leaving behind a small, difficult to notice cloud of scarlet energy orbs among those launched by the celestial that had yet to find a mark. A careful eye might notice the difference. Remilia used orbs rather then needles and they were not moving. But this is why the vampire had made it a point to zoom behind the celestial.

The vampire wears a smug look on her face as she addresses the celestial. If Tenshi was watching carefully, she'd notice Remilia still had a hand outstretched towards where she had come from. "You say you wish to fight evil for the sake of the humans, yet you are a much larger threat to them then I ever have been. What a simple girl. If you wish to try to justify your stupidity, do try and least make sense, won't you? Between you and I, it is obvious who the villain here is. To come to my home, make baseless accusations, and then threaten to murder me for nothing but amusement? You are the evil that needs to be removed, simple girl."

She snaps the fingers of her outstretched hand, and the crimson orbs she'd left behind begin to fly towards her hand. Of course between her hand and the orbs there was a certain celestial girl. It was not the aimless swarm Tenshi had tried, Remilia is attempting trickery. Confuse the girl, anger her, and then strike when she least expects it.

With an "eep!" composed of one part star-shock, one part admiration, and twelve parts sheer fright, Chen fumbled Remilia's umbrella into her shaking hands. It exuded a powerful feeling of: "If I tear this, I am so dead."

    Delicate. Tied lace.
Silky and translucent. (Scarlet tans unkindly.)

[[Don't forget about vampires' little-known weakness to anagrams. Just in case.]]

With this, Chen could stop hogging Letty's ice shield. She propped the umbrella up diagonally (On the grass! Not the dirt, Remilia, I swear!), and knelt on the ground under it. Perfect. A front row seat, out of the splash zone.

And not a minute too soon. A tower of earth shot up under Tenshi, and with a cry, the danmaku battle began. Oh, did it begin. Expanding whipcords of scarlet needles blotted out the crimson sky. In which was circling a scarlet vampire. All viewed through a red-tinted umbrella. Cripes, watching this was harder than telling the glowy bullets from the point items in Shou's stage.

Chen wasn't sure who to cheer for yet. Remilia did lend her this parasol, but... vampires are scary. And Tenshi did give that awe-striking pre-battle speech. "Go! Dodge! Woo! Watch out!" There, that should be sufficiently vague.

...Oh, that last paragraph isn't just cruft. You should know. Chen is the Cat of Bad Omens. You need at least a little black magic to deserve that title. She doesn't have reason to use it often, but... if she wants one of these contestants to lose, she might send a little burst of bad luck their way. Just a smidgen. Practically unnoticeable. Carry on.

Although this could be though of as the first time the celestial and vampire had ever "interacted" with one another, it was not mistaken to think that Tenshi had somewhat of an idea what to expect from Remilia. Even the tomboyish princess knew the importance of studying (as boring as she thought it to be). Then again, there was rarely ever a time where she put what she learned to good use. Not that it really mattered. All Tenshi could hope for in the end was that the little scarlet girl would do something incredible enough to surprise her.

Then again, the battle had only just started.

Tenshi hadn't expected much from her starting attack. Rather, it would have been very disappointing if it had really done anything. Upon seeing Remilia move about the bullet rain with such quick and precise steps, the young celestial found herself unconsciously letting out a small sigh. The fast ones were always so troublesome. Like trying to swat a small fly that never stopped moving. Of course she had expected this considering what her opponent was, but it was something she did not look forward to dealing with later in the fight. Still, it might be fun to find out which was faster: a vampire or a tengu.

Tenshi's attack would come to a sudden halt a split moment prior to Remilia taking to the skies. Having expected the vampire to charge in and attack, the celestial was just about ready to respond accordingly. That is, of course, until Remilia chose to fly on past her. "...?" The blue-haired celestial couldn't help but look to the vampire with a questionable gaze. Anyone that had been watching carefully and wasn't a fairy could tell that she had missed on purpose, but...what was she planning? Curious, Tenshi decided to wait and see what the scarlet girl and her outstretched hand were going to do.

But before that, more verbal abuse!

Tenshi's brows furrowed slightly as she stared at the insulting demon. Here she was expecting some grand attack from Remilia in return, but instead it was something she had already gotten tired of since the battle started. While the celestial could have cared less of what others thought of her reasoning behind her fun, she disliked boredom. She really disliked it, and it had become obvious that she had grown tired of Remilia's constant insults.

Quietly, Tenshi breathed out a small sigh, and, as if to mirror the small vampire, lifted her own hand up towards her. As if expecting it from the Remilia, Tenshi snapped her fingers in unison with the devil. What came was not an attack from behind, however. Like the attack prior, it came from above. Unlike it was the fact that is wasn't a rain of laser needles, but a rain of keystones. Many upon many keystones, large and small, falling from the heavens themselves. Some looked to fall at Remilia, others did well to intercept the orbs flying at Tenshi from behind, and some just fell at random spots in the sky! However, none of the keystones looked hit the ground. As if to defy that oh so defyable thing called gravity, each stone came to a sudden halt, floating in a random spot in the sky, till finally the entire surrounding area around both Tenshi and Remimlia looked to be filled with them. With Remilia's orbs no longer a problem, the girl of hisou calmly landed upon one of the set keystones.

"You...Really talk too much." With an expression that bordered between bored and annoyed, Tenshi looked to the scarlet devil as she spoke these words. "I see...I'm the villain, huh? Fine then. The role I play matters not to me. If it will do well to entertain me, I don't mind playing the part of the bad guy again." Tenshi's lips curled into a sly grin. "Of course, that would involve me doing much worse things, like trying to sink or destroy that mansion back there."

Lifting her free hand towards the scarlet devil, the young celestial would choose to start firing a volley of small, dense lasers at her. However, this wasn't the only threat Remilia would have to deal with. All the keystones positioned about the sky weren't just for show after all. One by one, at random intervals, they would suddenly drill through the skies at the vampire.

"Now, choose! What role shall you play, scarlet devil!?" Tenshi exclaimed, a smirk on her face as she attacked again and again, "Hero?! Villain?! Defender?! Exterminator?! What ever the choice, at least do well not to bore me!"

The tower shield was finished, and just in time to boot. From the looks of things the danmaku battle was about to get a lot uglier than anticipated as rocks started falling from the sky almost arbitrarily. At least, that was the snow woman's initial expectations in the matter. She was a touch puzzled by the celestial's sudden halt of what looked like a substantial attack, right up until she noticed that the stones were hovering everywhere above herself, the vampiress, and the cat of ill omens. The real target, however, was Remilia. This sudden field of stones was meant to reduce where the small vampire could go at the very least, though she suspected that their actual use was a lot more annoying overall.

This suspicion was justified as Tenshi launched into a mild speech of her own, declaring that the only thing she wanted was to alleviate boredom and that she didn't care what she had to do to get rid of it. Up to and including destroying another individual's home to do it. If the snow woman were part of this battle, she might be inclined to play a bit less politely than Remilia would. However, the role she had chosen to take up was to block and deflect the attacks hurled her way, so that's what she did. On the off chance that something got sent her way it'd most likely be bounced away harmlessly, though if the celestial decided to stop playing nice...

"Goodness, that celestial is quite rude." Says the snow woman as she continues to watch the battle above. The banter between the two opponents easily made its way to the ground. "Hopefully Miss Scarlet wins and shuts her up."

As Elis watched the battle between Remilia and Tenshi, her eyes stayed trained on her fellow vampire, following her movements and making her raise an eyebrow. Quite the agile thing aren't you Lady Remilia. Not that surprising but impressive none the less. Her eyes separated from their target to switch to the cloud she had left behind, causing a smirk. A trap hm? As I would expect. Let's see what it does, and if the Celestial falls for it.

Honestly, the Innocent Devil was surprised by Tenshi's keystone summoning, the sheer amount of the bloody things startled her, almost like a hailstorm of sharp rocks. She braced herself for an impact that... never came. Looking back up they seemed to be suspended in mid-air, which was very strange seeing as Elis could still sense no magic from them. This girl interests me more and more. Perhaps I can create a copy of her abilities with magic. Wouldn't be the first time I’ve done so, but that would take a long time to perfect... and I’d need a sufficient sample to test on.

Then the Celestial did, in at least the Innocent Devil's mind, the worst possible thing she could. Threatening the mansion. Pinching the bridge of her nose and shaking her head Elis let out a sigh, muttering under her breath. “bad choice of words... bad idea to attempt too... I’ll have to get involved if she tries that... probably not needed but we'll see how this unfolds.” after all, there is a library in there that I need access to.

It seems the celestial's attacks are designed more to annoy the Scarlet Devil then to prove truly dangerous. It was early in the battle, so naturally she wasn't pulling out the big guns. Who did that? If she was wanting to be entertained, then clearly she wouldn't want to try to end the battle right away. Not that Remilia would be worried about that happening. She's as self assured of victory as the celestial seems to be, but unless something or someone came between them, someone would eventually fall.

If the keystones fell all at once it might be somewhat troublesome, but coming at random intervals as they were, it was not that difficult to evade them. It was made a bit more complex by the addition of the hand fired shots. With attacks coming from two directions the evasion this time was a bit more complex. It wasn't a simple matter of weaving in and out of lazily tossed projectiles. The stones were clearly the more dangerous of the two things being launched at her. Not even she could just shrug a hit from one of those things. It wouldn't be lethal, of course, but it would be quite the annoyance and more then a little embarrassing as well. While she seems to be able to evade the energy shots, they do a fine job at hemming her in. It looks as if one of those keystones is going to clock her in the face. There are beams to either side of her, so it doesn't look as if she has anywhere to go! But Remilia is nothing if not resilient. A brilliant crimson shimmer covers one hand, which she thrusts towards the stone. From that comes a long, curious looking length of red light. It isn't a shot of some sort, however. It takes shape over the course of a second, rapidly assuming a more solid shape as just what she's done becomes obvious. What strikes against the stone is solid, not energy at all. In her hand is what can only be the legendary weapon she's said to possess. The divine spear Gungnir strikes against the stone with at least enough force to push it away if not shatter it outright.

Though she managed to avoid getting crushed, the assault is not without victims. The rocks may not have crushed her, but her courtyard is going to need some serious work after this is done with. Not making contact with her doesn't mean the keystones just up and vanish, sadly, and more then one cloud of dust is kicked up as they leave craters all throughout the area. Her lovely, well tended grass is shredded. It's going to take a long time to get that looking nice again. Remilia holds the slightly shimmering form of her spear at her side as she stares down the celestial. "And you think too little. Perhaps if you used your mind instead of your mouth you may come to realize the mistake you're in the process of making. You seem to be under the mistaken impression that in my home, you get to decide things. That you get to decide what part I play in your stupid game. I believe you have forgotten that you are at the Scarlet Devil Mansion. Here, the only thing that matters is what /I/ want! You wish to be entertained?" With an overly dramatic flourish, she spins the spear so it points directly at Tenshi on her keystone throne. "You'll be lucky if I even let you leave after this is over. Perhaps I shall strap you to the gates as an example for the other fools who seek to use my home as a source of amusement. Would that be 'entertainment' enough for you?"

A tiny, nearly unnoticeable sparkle shines at Gungnir's tip, but it soon becomes more obvious. Quickly, the vampire raises and drops Gungnir, and the response is nearly instant. Dozens of white orbs of energy appear in the air surrounding the celestial perch. From each of those orbs shoots a thin, white ray of energy, aimed not exactly at Tenshi, but rather in her general area, to pin her down. Taking a page from the celestial's book, the vampire uses her free hand to fire energy blasts into this energy cage, ones varied in both size and color. Large yellow ones nearly blend in with smaller white ones flying behind them, at slightly different angles.

Looking upward, Chen had but one thought: This umbrella is not enough.

Leave it to Tenshi and Remilia to use lasers and keystones where normal, non-piercing, non-parasol-crushing bullets would suffice.

Chen darted left and right. The buckets of bullets peppering the courtyard posed a challenge to her. And those were only the strays - a tiny fraction of the battle above. She spared a second to stare in awe at Remilia and Tenshi. Soon I'll be as good as them, I'm sure! Don't tell anyone, but Chen's life dream is to walk through a solid wall by dodging all of the atoms.

Keystones started falling. They were aimed at Remilia, but with the speed at which she swooped through the sky, Tenshi was probably more likely to pitch one through a cellar window and hit Flandre.

Chen survived. Until two of the boulders collided above her, knocking one directly downwards. In a panic, she dropped everything and rolled. The keystone collided with her leg. Fortunately, she was fine; it missed her hitbox.

The umbrella... wasn't so lucky. Chen picked up the pieces. Uh-oh. I have to find glue fast.
