[Halloween Party] All Hallow's Eve

Locations of interest: Ruined Western Mansion, Scarlet Devil Mansion
Forum rules
The river that flows down the Youkai Mountain drains into this lake. The poor visibility over the lake and the surrounding forests makes it appear to be very large, although one can easily walk around it. It is inhabited by behemothic fish.

Located on a ridge near the lake is the Scarlet Devil Mansion. A grand building of European styling, with few windows, an extensive basement, and an interior warped and enlarged through magical means. The clock tower houses a turret clock that only tolls at night.

Also nearby is the former Prismriver mansion. Once the home of the aristocratic Prismriver family, it now lies ruined and forgotten save by the three poltergeist sisters that remain.

Sakuya made a quick pass around the grand hall in not-time, straightening up any arrangements that needed help, making sure everything looked the part. She had then returned to the kitchen to check up on progress. Though the fairy maids she had picked for kitchen duty were competent at their job, and though she had several fairies assigned to keep the other fairies on task, a party of this size could easily disrupt the workflow she had put so much effort into creating. Even the fairies whose job it was to can food got reassigned. Such a fumble could not be afforded.

She was sifting through the pantry when Meiling came in to drop off the groceries, taking inventory. There would be more than enough food to get through the winter, even after a second party. No, the maid was more concerned with what was needed for this event particularly. She had gone through almost all of the sugar as well as several other things. Exiting the pantry, she made a mental note to bring some more up from storage...

The silver haired human paused, blinking at the bags of groceries, realizing that Meiling must have returned. Pulling one of the ruby trimmed fairies from the air, she gave quick instruction to sort the bought items into their proper place before grabbing the bottles of alcohol out of the bag and striding back out into the grand hall.

Scanning the floor, she noticed a lot more guests had arrived. It took her a moment to recognize everyone. she could not hide a small smile as she spotted two of the Prismrivers. She had been hoping they would come and had made sure to keep the areas that provided the best acoustics surprisingly clear... Her smile vanished upon seeing Kurumi however. She did not mind another vampire being there. Far from it. It was her attitude that could get under the maid's skin at times. The fairy was an all too common sight. Unlike Remilia, Sakuya did know the faces of her fairy maids and did not like this one sneaking in... The ghost caught her attention next, making the maid do a double take. Mima, if she recalled the name, correctly. She didn't know much about the ghost but she had heard quite a few things, and not all of them were positive. The wolf tengu, however, was someone new. Someone whom she knew little to nothing about. Hopefully she would not cause trouble... Finally, she saw the person she was looking for.

It took her a moment to recognize Meiling, though spot her she did by a table devouring the food she had made for the guests... With a tug at the fabric of time, she was behind the gate guard in an instant, trying not to frown too much. This was a party after all.

"Meiling." She paused a moment to let the startled gate guard recover her composure. "Please come with me."

Turning on heel, the maid strode quickly over to the ebony counter on one wall, cabinets lining the wall behind it. The cabinets broke in the middle for a drained wash-bin small glyph that produced fresh cool water and two boxes to one side lined with cold runes, the smaller one cold enough to freeze what was put inside. Above the wash-bin sat another cabinet, this one stocked with glassware.

"Remember how I went over drinks with you last week Meiling? This is why. I need you to serve them to our guests." Walking behind the counter she opened several of the cabinets, putting the bottles of alcohol away... revealing quite a bit more already in stock. "You will have a busy night ahead of you, especially if an oni comes. I'll also be bringing you orders for the guests who are too preoccupied to come to the counter themselves so stay focused okay?"

Closing the cabinet with a satisfied nod, she walked out from behind the counter. With a flick of her wrist, a large serving tray appeared, balanced in one hand, covered in enormous lemon-coaconut shrimp on tiny decorative dishes and fried seasoned scallops. She removed two of the scallops and placed them on Meiling's new workspace. "I'm counting on you Meiling." She paused. "If you really want something, wave me down when you're not busy and I'll fetch it for you."

Without another word, the maid strode off to mingle with the guests, greeting them one by one with a formal nod and offering them the contents of the tray. She was, unfortunately, too busy to socialize.

"If you need anything, do not hesitate to call for me." Was what she repeated to each guest in kind.

Meiling had just enough decency to look a little embarrassed when Sakuya appeared behind her. She'd quickly and greedily finish the roll she had, scarpering behind her to the bar. She did remember more than one might expect, the lessons having been well-received. She'd wanted a more dignified outfit for it, but Remilia had vetoed that idea, wanting Meiling in something that would catch attention. She certainly had managed that, at least! She'd listen patiently to her instructions, showing no sign of complaint. Generally when her friend asked her to do something, even in a terse tone, she would readily agree.

"Understood! I will do my best, Sakuya!" She'd give a chipper grin and a salute, before assuming her place behind the counter. The array of alcohol before and behind her was dizzying, but at least the runes were straightforward. She even remembered the command words for each, and which way to manipulate them. A little magic was not completely foreign to her, though she lacked any skill to create it from scratch. She did have to gawk when one of the serving trays was placed on her counter, as those scallops looked delightful. She'd gingerly start nibbling on them, snacking as she prepared a few drinks ahead of time in anticipation of her patrons.

And that was why she was so faithful, even when she made mistakes. The mansion was like a family, a home for her. Even if Remilia was at times demanding, she always felt appreciated. There was little more she could ask for, truth be told. Well, maybe she could ask that the Oni show up drunk and do as little damage as possible to her stocks. That way maybe the other guests would get to drink something. She still remembered catering at a festival at the Hakurei shrine some summers back. It had not been very pretty when both Yuugi AND Suika had arrived, finishing off the casks within an hour.

She adjusted her mask, and waited for the first orders to arrive.

Alice was late. There was no way around that, at least from the perspective of the puppeteer. What was worse, was that it was for the same reason she'd been late to the second concert a year before, underestimating how long it took to get her dolls dressed up when she needed them in costumes. Of course, illusions were hardly her forte and she had needed quite a few of them for this costume to work properly. Hopefully she wouldn't be interrupting anybody with her landing, at least.

Coming to a halt at the entrance to the mansion, Alice revealed herself to look almost nothing like usual. Wearing a black, regal gown expertly tailored to fit her body and a pair of heels, she was dressed completely differently from her usual practical outfit suitable for moving through the forest. More noteworthy, however, was the deep red color her skin had taken and the way heat and the smell of sulfur seemed to cling to her. The devilish look was further enhanced by a pair of pointy horns jutting from her temples, undoubtedly attracting undue attention should there be any oni at the party, rising from hair that had turned coalblack with small specks of light like embers for the occasion. Rounding out her costume was a classic demon tail, complete with a triangular point at the end. It was by all accounts an impressive costume, though she could well be accused of cheating having only created the dress using physical effects, the rest simply being a set of illusions created to complete the effect.

Naturally her dolls complemented her own costume, each of them dressed in a small, black witch outfit with a pointy hat and a broom in hand, making them look quite a bit like little Marisa's swarming around their mistress. The intent was quite different, however, with the dolls part of her costume, leaving the true thing she was dressed as not simply the obvious devil, but rather the entire witches' sabbat held at Mt. Bocken according to outside world beliefs. Even if her host was likely the only one to recognize it.

Seeing Remilia at the entrance, she gave her a slightly warmer smile than usual. The "angel" deserved that much for the effort she had gone to in setting the atmosphere for the night. Even if it did make breathing harder than she'd have preferred.

"Reimu's already passed out at the shrine from drinkin'< Mima said in a response to the 'angel' of the Mansion, smirking. Spiking the drinks so that she had been able to raid the shrine maiden's closet for the right accessories to finish her outfit had definitely paid off, and she floated in the general direction of 'inside', peering to see which costumes looked good.

Alice's, of course, caught the eye...but she had already needled the doll magician not too long ago. As fun as it might have been to tease her about the group of Marisa-s(Marisae? Marisagumi? There had to be a proper plural for that, she supposed).

Instead, she floated over the shinigami-like Tengu with a grin, taking a close look at her scythe. "Not a bad one - too bad it's not Komachi's scythe, but pretty good. But, say, what are you after tonight with your camera? Not just the mansion, is it?"

The spread of food was luscious just like she had assumed. Seafood, landfood, skyfood, and candy...lots and lots of candy! Sunny couldn't stop herself from stuffing her face with a variety of goods from pickled herring to jawbreakers. She ate and ate and ate like she has never eaten before then, all of a sudden, she stopped and looked up from the delicacies, her face covered in crumbs.

"I need a drink!", she declared, scanning the area and noticing Meiling manning the bar. There was nothing better than an open bar!

As she floated over toward the bar she passed Alice and grimaced. Her costume was fantastic but the smell...

"Nice costume, Miss Alice! Too bad you smell like poops. You should take a bath!", she advised, waving to the puppeteer before flitting the rest of the way to the bar.

"Miss Meiling! Gimme twenty beers!"

[OOC Note] A thread where Kogasa encounters the SDM for the first time is running concurrently with this one. For continuity sake, I'm going to say the events from the other thread conclude prior to this event. However, if Meiling takes issue with this assumption, we can work something out.

Secondly, Nue's cooking up a surprise for everyone, karakasa included. If she isn't the first to post after this, assume no one is aware of Kogasa's presence as she makes her way to the mansion. Don't ignore her after that though! [/OOC Note]

It was not too long ago that Kogasa was drifting along, when some batty piece of paper blindsighted her. Luckily, she managed to avoid any head on collisions as she reached to peel the paper away; she seemed to be having a concerning number of those lately.

"A costume party hmm?" The karakasa taps a finger to her chin as the contemplates the opportunities. Costumes are nothing more than disguises, aren't they? And when a bunch of meddling kids finally manages to remove your mask, aren't they usually surprised at what they find? At least, Kogasa was sure she had read something like that in one of the spooky stories she was studying.

But what would she go as? However she disguised herself, it couldn't be something too typical. Even the scariest design becomes mundane once everyone starts to expect it; Kogasa knows this all too well from the numerous times she has been called 'old fashioned'.

There was also the question of her umbrella half. She couldn't just leave it behind like some fashion accessory, it was part of of her body and vital to her existence. Kogasa spent days scouring any scary books she could find for monsters with umbrellas, ones that weren't tsukumogami. She began to fear she'd miss the surprise bus yet again, when she finally had a stroke...of the non-fatal, genius variety.

"Ooooh, I know someone with an umbrella who always turns heads." A wide grin grew over the heterochromatic girl's face. Indeed, she had met the legendary Yukari once before. She was gap news, that one, and Kogasa could hardly think of a better choice now.

Problem. Just where the heck was she going to get the materials for that? Never mind that, how was Kogasa to put the materials together in the first place? She may have originally been the product of craftsmanship, but that doesn't mean she knows the first thing about costume crafting herself. To make matters worse, she had wasted so much time before having that stroke that she couldn't afford to waste time thinking about what she's thinking about now!

"Ah, how hard could it be anyways?" Was surprise not her element? She can do this! Never mind the fact that she couldn't clearly remember what Yukari looked like, she'd manage. Some scraps of fabric, string, pins, and all sorts of whatever she could manage to lift from their rightful places without notice: all of these things went into a very rushed design. She'd tuck in her tongue and cover her eye, no, she could leave the eye and just say it's a gap! Steadily she worked with the scant few days she had left until the party, hastily wrapping up her work when the clock tower bell finally tolled.

And it looked irrevocably awful. The proportions and colors were wrong and the fabric was poorly sewn together, seeming to be more pin than stitch. Her umbrella tongue was just barely concealed by the cover slipped over it, and a hole allowed her 'gap' to peer through. Her hair was a smudgy brown and teal mess, looking like dirt had been rubbed into it as a vain attempt at somehow dying it.

There was absolutely no one who'd be convinced she wasn't dressed as yesterday's trash brought to life. 'Yukari' wouldn't be one of the last guesses she'd get.

"Hehehe, no one will expect this. Kogasa, I think you've finally got it this time!"

But for the pile of garbage steadily flitting her way through the mist, only success and surprised party goers awaited ahead.

Re: [Halloween Party] All Hallow's Eve

Postby Nue Houjuu » 12 Nov 2012 08:26

The Scarlet Devil's party was proving to be quite a potent lure, drawing youkai from all over Gensokyo, and none found the spooky atmosphere to be a more powerful magnet than Nue Houjuu. The fact that she'd never been to the Scarlet Devil Mansion before and had yet to meet any of its residents did nothing to dissuade her. The youkai of the unknown wasn't very fond of social events, but this was something she simply couldn't allow herself to miss out on, and thanks to her powers she didn't need any time or supplies to create her 'costume'.

Instead of choosing an already existing monster to take the shape of, Nue had decided to appear as a more monstrous version of her most common form. Her eyes were completely black, almost resembling empty sockets, while her skin tone had changed to a lifeless gray. The youkai's mouth had morphed into a fanged grin of inhuman size, so wide it looked like it was splitting her face in half. The blood splattered around her mouth, whether it was real or illusory, only made her appearance more unsettling. She had decided to go barefoot, revealing that more blood stained the dangerous looking claws that grew from her fingers and toes, the large blades making an eerie scraping sound whenever she walked. Her dress had changed considerably, now covered in a disturbing array of ghostly faces, each one twisted into an expression of horror and agony. Instead of simply being embroidered on the fabric, they were direct manifestations of Nue's powers, and actually moved if one watched them, wailing silently with their nonexistent voices. Her bow looked like a living creature now, boasting a texture remarkably similar to human flesh as well as a bulging red eye at its center, the unblinking organ watching everything around it through a slitted pupil. Perhaps the most noticeable aspect of Nue's new look was her wings. The tentacles had been replaced by spinal cords, the bones of each picked clean, and were tipped by equally fleshless skulls. The six morbid appendages rattled harshly with each and every movement they made, no matter how small, but seemed to be just as flexible as the limbs they had replaced.

All in all, she'd given herself quite a frightening visage.

On her way to the festivities, the transformed nue noticed another youkai flying through the mist below her. Despite not having seen any of the other costumes yet, upon getting a closer look Nue immediately decided that they all had to be better than this one. If she wasn't trying to maintain a scary image, she would have laughed out loud the moment she got her first clear glimpse of Kogasa's absolutely pathetic outfit. It took a short while to even figure out who she was supposed to be, but the chimera eventually realized that she was trying to look like Yukari. The chimera had never seen the gap youkai up close, but she knew Gensokyo's most eccentric youkai looked nothing like this.

It was tempting to just let Kogasa continue on her way, especially since she'd probably be laughed at when she got to the party, but Nue was already scheming something quite different. With a gesture, two Seeds of Non-identification hovered towards Kogasa, unseen as they crept through the mist and attached themselves to the oblivious karakasa. The first changed her laughable costume into an almost perfect replication of the real thing. It changed her clothes, her umbrella, her hair, and even her eyes, until she looked like she could be Yukari's twin. Unless one examined her very closely, the only thing giving away her disguise was her height. The second seed morphed itself into something that looked just like one of Yukari's gaps, even if it couldn't function like one, and began to follow Kogasa as she flew, remaining only a foot or so behind her at all times.

Her devious work finished for the moment, Nue accelerated and flew off into the fog. Her skeletal wings rattled loudly in the process, but she was out of sight before Kogasa even realized she was there. Slowing down only when the Scarlet Devil Mansion came into view, the monstrous chimera landed right in front of the gates. Even out here there were many interesting sights, from the other guests to the altered appearance of the mansion itself...

"Hmm?" Kogasa felt something strange overcome her, but she couldn't be sure it was anything at all. An intense chill ran through down her spine out of the red and blue, something the surprise youkai wasn't accustomed to feeling.

"This feeling..." It wasn't quite unpleasant, in fact, Kogasa began to enjoy it as it grew in intensity. "Oh, I think I read about this in a book somewhere!" The spine chill, odd intuition, powerful surge in mood; indeed, it was very much like how some humans were described getting during a rush of confidence and adrenaline.

"This must be that youformic thing! Hehehe, my powers must finally be growing to their full potential with this brilliant idea." Kogasa never pretended to be a language major, though that might be a good way to surprise everyone sometime. Her ego ever inflating, the karakasa was hapless indeed, completely oblivious to the work of a certain cruel being.

It did take Not Yukari a while to finally arrive. She was never in much of a hurry when drifting along, even if she was late to the party. It'd probably work in her favor though, Yukari didn't seem the type to rush or be prompt either. Landing gracefully (for once), the surprise made her way inside, doing her best to put on an air of dignity with her stride. It's not a half bad effort, though her current appearance is by far more convincing of the gap she's impersonating.

"So many new faces," Kogasa thinks to herself as she enters, "This is going to be great!"

Postby Alice Margatroid » 17 Nov 2012 22:32

Once inside Alice began looking over the other costumes. There were some good ones, though they seemed mostly to be ordinary costumes, at least except for Remilia. And of course Mima, who seemed to use the entire event as an opportunity to mess with Reimu by impersonating her. Making a mental note to avoid heading in that direction, Alice instead walked over to the food, letting her dolls bring her some choice snacks. One was assembling a plate of food, naturally picking ones that would be easy to eat using only your fingers, while another went for the candy, assembling a small collection of chocolates, toffees and other higher end western snacks.

It was here that a certain rude, chaotic pest had to interrupt her. "If your excrements smell like sulphur, you should probably check your diet." Her cold smile wavered slightly, as she fixed her gaze at the fairy. "Also, you might consider that it was an intentional part of the costume, after all this is hardly a smell people usually have, wouldn't you agree?"

Despite her annoyance at the girl, she did send one of her witchy attendants to the bar to secure her a drink. You couldn't enjoy a party like this without something to drink, after all and even less so when faced with obnoxious, fluttering kids like that. Pointing towards the shelf of beer, the doll raised a finger as if to say it wanted just one.

And that was when...Yukari(?) walked in. Something seemed off, though, like how she hadn't used the opportunity to troll people with a costume or how she didn't pop out of a gap, but just walked in like a normal person. Still, it was hard to mistake that appearance.

Meiling was less than amused by Sunny's appearance. She was even less amused by her over the top order. However, the gate guard had long experience in dealing with such an obnoxious fairy, and would just smile dangerously. She would pour a beer for Sunny, but only a single one. She'd set the glass on the edge of the counter so the fairy could reach it, and peer down at her strangely.

"There's the first one. Finish it, and then we'll see about another."

The edge in her voice brooked no argument. She'd remove Sunny the instant she had an excuse to, and would even risk Remilia's short term displeasure to do so. She wasn't about to give her twenty beers at once, and Meiling figured the fairy would get bored before she hit ten. Assuming she didn't pass out or fall asleep from being such a greedy guts. She'd start a bit as a doll would lilt over towards the bar, but recognizing it as one of Alice's dolls she'd relax a little.

"Jeeze, nobody can do anything normally anymore, can they?"

A wry smirk on her face as she'd select a single light beer for Alice, pouring the glass and handing it to the doll. Most didn't seem to be heading her direction yet, so she was snacking on what Sakuya had left for her. It was a pretty easy job, and she was enjoying seeing all the different costumes. Alice's in particular, and Rin's, both looked quite clever. She didn't recognize either one, but they were interesting and a little scary to her. Kogasa's however, really took the cake. She didn't quite connect that it was Kogasa in particular, but she did recognize it couldn't actually be Yukari. It had to be someone using magic to disguise themselves, or was it? Meiling really didn't pretend to understand magic beyond Danmaku. She kept one eye on the short looking youkai, wondering if this was a prank someone was setting up. It was a very convincing forgery though...

Goodness gracious, the gathering got really large, really fast, didn't it? The Vampire Girl couldn't quite recall the last time she had seen such a large number of people in one place, and it was raher breathtaking- not to mention such a large display of creative minds! None of them could hold a candle to her own costume, of course, but she would give credit where credit was due.

For the moment, she'd need some time to get her bearings together, create some sort of plan to figure out whom she was going to mingle with first. Common sense would state that she start with Remilia, but now that she thought about it, the last time she was here she had learned about Flandre, didn't she? Perhaps it would be best to find that other vampire first, size her up and see what all the hub-bub is about. "Hmph." she suddenly grumbled, and proceeded to nose around, looking at each attendant to try to figure out which one is the little bugger- this eventually brought her to Sakuya, in which the blonde stared a moment (particularly at the cat ears), then snorted in amusement. "Nice tanuki costume, maid."

Aya was quick to head straight for the bar, but not without a giggle and snapshot of the nekofied maid. Hefting her heavy scythe on her shoulder, she mentally gave a nod to Komachi for having to deal with an actual metal one in terms of weight and making it look so easy. Stomping off to the bar in her boots, the tengu-in-disguise made a small wave of her hand at Meiling. "Hey! Nice outfit." she greeted the gateguard before peering at the drinks. "Gimme...something really strong." she said before looking around at the new arrivals. One stuck out rather quickly to her, being that she was the one Aya knew most of all.

Leaving the bar after she got her drink, she quickly moved across the room, weaving through the other people and the decor until she stood right in front of Momiji. "Hey, Momiji! Nice to see you here! Good outfit. Looks cute on ya." the tengu greeted the wolf-tengu, arm slung around shoulder as Aya took a sip of her glass. "What do you say we get some drinks and something to eat?"

Lunasa gave a small chuckle at Remilia's request. "I enjoy it the most when I can perform, so you can look forward to it. And if Lyrica needs it, I'm sure she'll appreciate the use of your piano." It would all depend on if her sister wanted to play with her keyboard or a more classical instrument. Both worked rather well, so it'd really just be a matter of preference. "Well, I'm sure you're busy, so I'll just see myself in then." Giving the vampire a bow, she walked inside, looking around at the detail put into the 'run-down' mansion, as well as other people's costumes.

She didn't really have any attachment to most of the people that were present, so she mostly just kept to herself, playing her violin and more or less moving without direction until she found a nice place to keep still. The mansion made for good acoustics, carrying the sound of her violin for quite a long distance.

Momiji was completely lost. All she could bring herself to do was to nervously shuffle around the room, weaving past the other guests in such a way that it might seem like she was going somewhere. As this continued, Momiji began to feel more and more depressed, even beginning to ponder slipping out and heading back to Youkai Mountain.
Aya Shameimaru wrote:"Hey, Momiji! Nice to see you here! Good outfit. Looks cute on ya." the tengu greeted the wolf-tengu, arm slung around shoulder as Aya took a sip of her glass. "What do you say we get some drinks and something to eat?"

Momiji jolted upright at the sound of her name, and it took a lot of willpower to keep her tail down and hidden. Once she recovered from the surprise, she really didn't find it that strange that Aya would show up at such an event. "Gah... Uh.. T-thanks..." Momiji managed to stammer out in response to the crow tengu's compliment, "I-it was mostly a last minute thing, I really couldn't decide on a costume." Cheered up by Aya's offer, Momiji smiled and calmly replied, "Yeah, lets go," gesturing for Aya to take the lead.

Postby Komachi Onozuka » 22 Nov 2012 02:19

Komachi and Youmu were arriving much later than the shinigami would have liked. It had taken more time than she expected to get the young girl prepped and ready. On the plus side this WAS the Scarlet Devil Mansion they were talking about. There was obviously plenty of party left to be had, and being 'fashionably late' might not be such a bad thing, and there was never anything wrong with making an entrance.

The ferryman touched down gently, and started to walk the last bit of distance toward the mansion. She was dressed in a dark purple dress. It was trimmed in white lace, and low cut. The front of the chest, and the sides of the skirt were ornamented with large red cross stitching. The dress was pulled tight around her waist by a black leather belt with a gold, square buckle. The front of her skirt was covered by a large white apron. On her head, the usual hair bobble were replaced with a pair that were lined with white lace. To complete the outfit she wore black stockings and polished black shoes.

For tonight the visage of death would pretend to be no more than an ordinary maid. A servant to her mistress. Komachi believed this would make for an excellent costume. It seemed strange for creatures of the super natural to dress as... well the super natural. Somehow the mundane costume seemed so much more fitting.

As she approached the gates, she had to give props to Remilia on the ambiance. The mist gave the approach quite an eerie feel. It seemed that the famous maid had been slacking a bit in her cleaning as well; though it was obvious that this was done on purpose, rather than actually taking a break.

At the door though was the most interesting sight so far. The devil thought to play as an angel for the evening. Komachi couldn't help but chuckle at the irony. Being acquainted with all sorts of divine and infernal creatures, she knew that sometimes they weren't so different.

“Good evening, Divine Mistress." She stated with a deep and flourishing bow, "I would like to announce the arrival of Princess Youmu, and her servant Komachi!”
